Also macht euch gefasst auf geballte WOMENPOWER ;):

In this day, we celebrate our moms, our female teachers, our sisters and our daughters.
We celebrate freedom, we celebrate respect, we celebrate beauty, we celebrate power.
I dont call myself a feminist, but a humanist.
We all have the right to vote, to work, to shop, to practice our religious rituals, and political views. We all have the right to be safe.
If there is a problem that I might be worried about the woman in this century it would not be women to be equal to men – which I don’t aim to! – but I am worried about men and women equality to the basic human living standards!
If I would have the power to change the world to make women’s life easier?
I will not have mercy in woman sexual harrassment laws, I will not have mercy in woman opression laws.

I come from Italy and on women’s day men are used to celebrating by presenting women with flowers for the occasion.
However, the best present we, as women, could receive from men would be that stereotypes about women are abandoned.
That if I play football and/or basketball or I burp for fun like guys do, I’m not necessarily a lesbian, that if I am nervous I am not necessarily on my period.
I want you to open the door for me as you would do with a male friend that you want to be nice to.
I am capable of working as hard and well as men do, and I want this to be reflected in my wages.
Leave the flowers on the trees and treat me as if I were your peer, that is how I want to be celebrated every day, forever.

The 8th of March reminds me of when I was a kid. On that day, my dad used to give me a mimosa, a yellow plant traditionally donated to women in Italy in order to celebrate them. I have always been, indeed, a lucky woman. Supported by my family who never made me doubt my potential and pushed me to become a confident and powerful woman.
Today my thoughts go to all of our great women. And particularly to the mothers rescuing their children from the war or accepting to leave them in order to try to give them a future. With the wish that all of them are going to find peace. And hoping they don’t doubt of their power and confidence, from which I can only learn everyday.

My biggest role model is my Grandma. She was a mother of five, grandma of sixteen, community leader, activist, artist, and businesswoman. She had incredible integrity, was compassionate, passionate and always fought for what she believed in. She encouraged me, and all her grandchildren, to be leaders and that we could achieve anything we set our minds to.

“It was massive undertaking, but it needed to be done” – this is Safia Minney referring to the initial startup of ‘People Tree’. I believe there are women around the world driven by the same energy and determination to bring positive change as the energy and determination which drove Safia. My wish for the women’s day is that these passionate ladies will meet the adequate support and enthusiasm from their communities in order to achieve the change they aim to.
